Create the Colour Palette and Understand Colour Media & Colour Schemes – Portfolio Assignment for Design Colleges


Dear Students

This assignment is very important for your portfolio preparation for design colleges like NID, UCEED, NIFT, and NATA.


You have to create any two shapes of 10 cm on two different pages. One page will be for warm colour schemes and the other page will be for cool colour schemes. (You may create a square, triangle, pentagon, or hexagon as per your choice.)


In the first shape, you will work with warm colours – Red, Orange, and Yellow. In the second shape, you will work with cool colours – Green, Blue, and Violet. You can refer to the colour wheels provided for better understanding.


Use poster colours and small round brushes to complete the work neatly and professionally.

Inside both the shapes, you have to create simple design elements.


For the cool colour shape, draw 2 to 3 ice cream candy, 2 to 3 cones, 2 circles, 2 squares, and 2 to 4 wavy lines inscribing all the the shapes . Alternatively, you may draw shapes or elements that represent the concept of cool. You may refer the attachment for the better understanding.


For the warm colour shape, draw a 2 cactus plants, 2 hats, along with 2 circles, 2 squares, and 2 to 4 wavy lines inside the shape. Alternatively, you may draw elements that represent the concept of warm.

Once both shapes are completed, aside create a proper colour palette using the same colours you have used in your composition.


The overall work should be neat, well-balanced, and visually appealing. Finishing should be very good, Focus on understanding colour schemes, colour application, and presentation quality, as this is very important for your design entrance portfolio. 1/8 Size page for each composition.
